The new release of NetMan Desktop Manager version 4.1.1 is available now via download. In addition to eliminating a few minor issues in the previous release, the new version offers expanded multi-monitor support.
Thanks to this new feature, even Windows Server 2003 users can enjoy all the convenience of multiple monitors with a total resolution of up to 4096 x 2048 (MS RDP client 6.x required).
Furthermore, NDM 4.1.1 features automatic positioning of maximized application windows. Unlike Windows Server 2008, NDM does not display maximized application windows across multiple monitors, but rather maximizes each window on the same monitor on which it was opened.
The new NDM version is available free of charge to all NDM users who have an active service contract. It can be downloaded from the NDM website and installed over the previous version (in-place installation). License keys from earlier 4.x versions remain valid.

In addition to a number of enhancements in the details, the new release provides 64-bit support at both the client and server ends. This means with NDM and a 64-bit operating system, you can now use your Windows Server 2003 or 2008 to its fullest potential.
The update is available for download from the NDM web page, at NDM Download.
A valid version 4 license is required for this update. You can perform an in-place update to version 4.1. Afterwards, the server must be rebooted.

Under the aegis of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, awards for the most innovative IT solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises were presented at the 2009 CeBIT trade show by "Initiativ Mittelstand," an initiative promoting SMEs, for the sixth year running. This year, H+H Software GmbH of Göttingen is among the winners.
In the System Management category NetMan Desktop Manager, an application virtualization solution specially developed for medium-sized enterprises, took the top prize. A 60-member jury made up of scientists, industry journalists and IT experts selected just 34 winners in specific categories and 18 state-level winners from a total of 2000 applicants.

CeBIT, the world's largest annual IT trade fair, opens on March 3 in Hanover, Germany. H+H will be there again too, this time at Bitkom's shared booth for server-based computing: Look for us at Booth A 04 in Hall 4, where you can learn all about the advantages of NetMan Desktop Manager 4 over Windows Server 2008, and preview the upcoming NDM release.
We would be happy to consult with you on your current projects, and have your resellers or system venders join the conversation, too. Separate meetings rooms with refreshments are available for undisturbed discussions.
On request, we can even provide you with guest tickets for admission.
Let's make the most of this opportunity to meet face to face. We're looking forward to your visit!

New: Java Client
The new Java client allows nearly any current operating system to run Windows applications through NetMan Desktop Manager 4. All that's needed is a current web browser and a Java run-time environment, version 1.5 or higher. The local computer can then access applications through the familiar web front-end that presents each user with exactly those programs he or she is authorized to use. On launching an application, users see no difference - in appearance or operation - from programs running locally. The Java client now allows Mac OS X and Linux users to run Windows programs served by NetMan Desktop Manager. Moreover, because the Java client needs no software installation on the target system, NetMan Desktop Manager 4 is also accessible from Windows systems with limited user privileges.
New: Dynamic Load Balancing
NetMan Desktop Manager 4 improves on the existing session-based load balancing by adding the option of weighting individual servers' current performance data. The enhanced load-sharing feature monitors the servers' CPU and memory loads in real time, and assigns new sessions to the server with the most free resources. This allows finer tuning of the hardware utilization and greater performance of the IT system overall.
New: Server Monitor
In addition to the Station and License Monitors, NetMan Desktop Manager 4 now provides the Server Monitor for comprehensive real-time monitoring of the terminal server network. The Server Monitor functions as a component of the Station Monitor to provide information about all of the NDM terminal servers. It allows you to view and control active processes and sessions selectively or cumulatively. Moreover, the Server Monitor tracks current performance data including CPU and RAM capacity use, and lets you apply individual thresholds for each server. When a warning threshold is exceeded, NetMan Desktop Manager logs an appropriate message.
One thing hasn't changed: The price of NetMan Desktop Manager remains the same, even with all of the newest version's enhancements!
Customers with an active Software Service Agreement can upgrade their license key on the Update page.
A 30-day test version is available here as well following registration (free of charge).

"IT-Administrator," a leading industry journal in Germany, has thoroughly tested NDM 3.7 and described their results in an article called "Almost Like a Local Installation."
The conclusion is clear: NDM is "optimally suited for companies that use terminal server technology-whether a single terminal server or a large server farm-but do not want to convert to Citrix products, and who publish a broad array of applications over terminal servers to large numbers of users. This product is also ideal for installations in which most workstations are equipped with thin clients."
The complete test report is available (in German) on our website.
